Privacy, in plain language.

Effective September 4, 2026. This policy describes the Kantu mobile app and this website.

The short version

Kantu uses account, photo, learning, and purchase information to provide the features you choose. We do not sell personal data, serve advertising, or use cross-app tracking. Photos are processed for visual-language analysis; they are stored in your private cloud collection only when you explicitly save them.

1. Who we are

Kantu is a visual language-learning app developed and operated by DevLab. Questions about this policy or Kantu’s data practices can be sent to contacto@dev-lab.cl.

2. What Kantu processes

Account information

When you sign in with Apple or Google, Kantu receives a stable account identifier and any email address, display name, or profile image that the provider makes available. Kantu does not receive your Apple or Google password.

Pictures and visual analysis

When you choose to analyze a picture, Kantu sends a compressed copy, the selected languages, and the requested detail level to the Kantu visual-language service. The service returns object names, translations, label positions, confidence information, pronunciation text, and example sentences.

Pictures submitted for analysis are processed to answer the request and are not added to a photo library on Kantu’s servers by default.

Private collections

If you choose “Save to collection,” Kantu stores a compressed learning picture, thumbnail, analysis, collection name, and language choices in a private cloud collection associated with your account. This lets the saved lesson remain available across your devices.

Learning and app activity

Kantu stores learning progress such as points, streaks, completed challenges and tests, review counts, accuracy totals, and mastered-word identifiers. Progress is kept on your device and synchronized with your Kantu account. Saved dictionary words and basic app preferences are also stored on your device.

Kantu records limited product events, such as whether a scan succeeded, a word was saved, a review was completed, a paywall was opened, or a purchase completed. These counts help operate and improve the product. Kantu does not include advertising SDKs or cross-app behavioral tracking.

Usage and purchases

Kantu stores the number of successful picture analyses used in the current allowance period and a record of the active plan. Apple or Google processes payment. RevenueCat helps Kantu manage purchase entitlements and may provide product, entitlement, transaction, store, and expiration information. Kantu does not receive full payment-card details.

Pronunciation and reminders

When you ask Kantu to speak a word or sentence, that text and the selected language are sent to the speech service to create audio. Daily challenge reminders are scheduled on your device when notifications are enabled.

3. How we use data

  • Authenticate your account and keep it secure.
  • Analyze the pictures you select and generate translations and pronunciation.
  • Synchronize private collections, learning progress, preferences, and subscription access.
  • Apply picture allowances, prevent duplicate charging for retries, and restore purchases.
  • Diagnose failures, protect the service from abuse, and improve Kantu’s features.
  • Respond to support, privacy, and account-deletion requests.

4. Service providers

Kantu relies on service providers to run specific parts of the app:

  • Firebase for authentication, private cloud data, file storage, and account records.
  • Apple and Google for sign-in, app distribution, and payment processing.
  • RevenueCat for subscription entitlement and purchase-status management.
  • Visual-language and speech infrastructure for picture analysis, translation, and requested audio.

These providers process data only for the services they supply and under their own terms and privacy policies. Kantu’s store privacy declarations must also account for data processed by integrated SDKs and service providers.

5. Storage and retention

Pictures submitted only for analysis are processed for the request and are not retained by Kantu as a photo library by default. Operational systems may retain limited security and error logs for a reasonable period.

Private collection pictures and their analyses remain until you delete the item or your account. Account, learning-progress, usage, and subscription records remain while your account is active. Local data remains on the device until you remove it, delete the account through Kantu, or uninstall the app, depending on the data type.

When you delete your account, Kantu removes the Firebase Authentication user, private cloud collections and files, usage records, subscription mirror, cloud learning progress, and the Kantu data cleared by the app from that device. Limited records may be retained when required for security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, or legal compliance.

6. Device permissions

  • Camera: used when you choose to take a picture.
  • Photo library: used when you choose an existing picture or save a labeled picture.
  • Notifications: used for the daily challenge reminder you enable.
  • Network: required for analysis, translation, speech, account features, collections, and subscriptions.

You can decline or later change optional permissions in device settings. Kantu does not request microphone recording access.

7. Your privacy choices

  • Choose which pictures to analyze and which results to save in a cloud collection.
  • Remove saved dictionary words and individual collection pictures.
  • Disable notifications, camera access, or photo-library access in device settings.
  • Delete your Kantu account from the Account screen in the app.
  • Request deletion without the app through the account-deletion page.
  • Ask for access to or correction of your account data by emailing contacto@dev-lab.cl.

Deleting a Kantu account does not cancel an active Apple or Google subscription. Subscriptions must be canceled separately in the applicable store account.

8. Children

Kantu is a general-audience learning utility and is not directed to children under 13, or under 16 where that higher threshold applies. We do not knowingly collect personal data from a child below the applicable age without appropriate authorization. If you believe a child has provided personal data, email contacto@dev-lab.cl so it can be reviewed and deleted.

9. Security

Kantu uses encrypted network connections and access controls designed to keep account and private collection data protected. No security measure can guarantee absolute protection. Avoid submitting pictures containing confidential documents, financial information, private correspondence, or other sensitive personal data.

10. Changes and contact

This policy may be updated when Kantu’s features, providers, or legal obligations change. The effective date at the top will be revised when an update is published.
